Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment addresses at the 28th Partnership Summit in India.

New Delhi, Mar 14 (Prensa Latina) The Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, said at the Summit of Associations of the Confederation of Indian Industry, that Cuba will defend multilateralism at all costs.

Malmierca said Monday in New Delhi the views of the island on this issue, speaking at the 28th edition of the event, which is being held until tomorrow March 15 in collaboration with the Department of Promotion of Industry and Domestic Trade of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India.

The Caribbean head of state stressed that the current international economic scenario raises several questions on how to contribute to minimize the uncertainty caused by complex geopolitical events in the most trade-dependent countries and in the most vulnerable populations.

He also outlined as other concerns how to recover the levels of economic sustainability affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in different parts of the planet and how to ensure that climate change, which has always been constant and on a par with other global economic problems, ceases to be a negative catalyst with irreversible effects.

Only the coordinated action of associations, but above all timely, innovative, but channeled through cooperation and solidarity can achieve progress in answering the above questions, he said.

It emerges as a necessity of the first order to strengthen the political will of nations, in order to progress along the paths of economic integration, with the aim of enabling peoples to achieve their legitimate development interests to reduce asymmetries, he added.

The associations should, among other objectives, focus on a fair integration of economies into the flow of international trade, the Cuban official said in his speech.

Faced with the negative consequences of climate change caused by indifferent or negligent behavior of multiple actors, which impact many economies, we must respond with climate action based on cooperation allied to economic growth, he continued.

"In that sense, only effective multilateralism will prove in the future to be the strongest pillar of peace. There is no road to peace - as Mahatma Gandhi said - peace is the way. Therefore, effective multilateralism should also be the way," he emphasized.

Malmierca finally asserted that from the presidency of the Group of 77 + China, Cuba will work this year at the United Nations to defend multilateralism at all costs.

He also welcomed the close relations of friendship that Cuba and India have maintained for 63 years, nations that despite their diversity share common positions on the multilateral agenda.

The 28th edition of the Summit of Associations of the Confederation of Indian Industry, where the Cuban representation participates, seeks to promote partnerships and shape new economic collaborations between countries and companies.
