Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Begins Visit to Canada

Ottawa, November 18, 2018. On Sunday Nov. 18 Cuba´s Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Mr. Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, embarked on a five-day working visit to Canada. During his stay, he will carry out an extensive visit agenda, which includes meetings with Canadian officials and members of the business sector in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

In Toronto, Minister Malmierca will meet with senior executives from companies that have maintained a long-standing relationship with Cuba, such as Sherritt International Corporation, a major foreign investor in our country. He will also hold a meeting with businessmen interested in establishing economic and trade links with Cuba, to whom he will provide updated information on Cuba´s business opportunities.

In Ottawa, the head of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment (MINCEX), will meet with several Canadian ministers, including the Hon. Jim Carr, Minister of International Trade Diversification and the Hon. Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development, to discuss opportunities to expand trade bonds, investment and cooperation. In addition, Minister Malmierca will be received at Parliament Hill by the Hon. George Furey and the Hon. Geoff Regan, Speakers of the Senate and the House of Commons, respectively.

In Montreal, during the last part of the visit, Minister Malmierca will deliver a keynote address — before a large audience of representatives of the business sector, provincial government and scholars— on the existing potentials to expand Cuba-Quebec trade and business ties.

The Cuban delegation includes Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, Ambassador of Cuba in Canada; Maria de la Luz B'Hamel Ramírez, Director of Trade Policy with North America at MINCEX; Carlos Luis Jorge Méndez, Minister´s Adviser; and Mrs. Cristina Ramos Moreno, Economic-Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of Cuba.
