Ottawa, November 20, 2018.- Mr. Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment of Cuba, began on Tuesday an intense official program in Canada´s capital.
In the morning, Minister Malmierca met with the Hon. Francois-Phillipe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, to discuss the existing potentials for Canada to expand its participation in the development of this sector in Cuba. Afterwards, Minister Malmierca and the Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental and Northern Affairs and Internal Trade, held a productive meeting in which they addressed issues of mutual interest at the bilateral level.
On Tuesday afternoon, after paying a courtesy call to the Speaker of the House of Commons, Hon. Geoff Regan, Minister Malmierca was received at Global Affairs Canada by the Hon. Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development. During the meeting, they examined the possibilities to expand Canada's development assistance relations with Cuba.
On Tuesday evening, the Embassy of Cuba hosted a reception in honor of the visit of Minister Malmierca, which was attended by a large number of personalities, including Mr. Michel Grant, Assistant Deputy Minister for the Americas at Global Affairs Canada; the Hon. Senators Ghislain Maltais and Pierre J. Dalphond, among other government officials. Also attending were representatives of the Diplomatic Corps and members of the corporate sector, namely Mr. David Pathe, President & CEO of Sherritt International Corporations and Nancy Lussier, President of the Canada-Cuba Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
