Harare, October 23, 2025 – Cuba today recognized Zimbabwe's resilience and dignity by reiterating its solidarity with the African nation in the face of unilateral coercive measures on the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Anti-Sanctions Day, October 25.
Our strongest solidarity with our sister country, a victim for more than two decades of sanctions that affect its development and well-being, without reason or justification, states the message from the International Relations Committee of the National Assembly of People's Power (NAPP) to the Honorable Webster Shamu, Chairman of the Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
On this day, it adds, when the peoples and governments of SADC renew their call for justice and respect for international law, we recognize the example of resilience and dignity of the Zimbabwean people and the leadership of their government at the forefront of this just cause.
The message, signed by the head of the ANPP commission, Alberto Núñez, considers, as expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the United Nations, Honorable Dr. Amon Murwira, that these measures only strengthen the people's resolve, sustained by the solidarity of the SADC countries, the African Union, and friends around the world.
This strength, the text emphasizes, also inspires Cuba, which reiterates its gratitude to Zimbabwe for its constant support in its battle against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
According to the document, this solidarity, expressed time and again at the United Nations General Assembly, is a symbol of true brotherhood.
On October 28 and 29, the UN General Assembly will debate for the thirty-third time the draft resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by the United States on Cuba," and we trust, as always, in the firm and fraternal voice of Zimbabwe.
It also affirms that our peoples share a history of struggle for independence, social justice, and self-determination.
These values unite us and commit us to continue strengthening ties between parliaments in favor of peace, cooperation, and sustainable development, the message concludes.
