Monrovia, July 26, 2022 - The President of the Republic of Cuba, Dr. Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla sent messages of congratulations to the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency George Manneh Weah and Foreign Minister Dee Maxwell Saah Kemayah, on the occasion of today's 175th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Liberia.

On July 26, 1847, Liberia's Declaration of Independence was signed, making this West African country the first nation on the African continent to gain its emancipation.

Liberia was founded as a colony to house African-Americans who had been freed from slavery. According to the country's name, which means "Land of the Free," it is a country created on the pillars of freedom, which was denied to slaves when they were enslaved in the USA.

Liberia is a West African state whose history is unique compared to most other countries in Africa.
