Cuban Representative to the Council of ICAO Attends 18th CAR/SAM Regional Planning and Implementation Group Meeting

Ottawa, April 12, 2018- Cuban Permanent Representative on the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Mrs. Mirta Crespo Frasquieri is attending this week the Eighteenth Meeting of the Caribbean and South American Regional Planning and Implementation Group (GREPECAS), being held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

More than 100 delegates from 20 countries are attending GREPECAS/18 hosted by the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) from 9 to 14 April, 2018.

During the third work session, Mrs. Crespo Frasquieri spoke about Cuba´s experience with regards to the cybersecurity framework. Mrs. Crespo Frasquieri explained how Cuba has been able to implement a civil aviation digital network which efficiently supports the applications used for the air traffic control system. In addition, she referred to what is yet to be made from the legislative point of view in order to keep up with the growing use of technology in the field of civil aviation in Cuba.

The Cuban delegation is made up of the Directors of Air Transportation and Aircraft Fields at the Institute of Civil Aeronautics of Cuba.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a UN agency specialized in the setting up of principles and policies for international air transportation, which promotes planning and development of international air transportation to ensure an orderly and secure development of the aviation sector. ICAO headquarters are based in Montreal, province of Quebec, Canada. In 2016, Cuba was elected as Member State of the Council of the ICAO for a three-year term.
