Cuban Revolution´s 60th Anniversary Celebrated in Ottawa.

Ottawa, January 30, 2019.- The Embassy of Cuba in Canada hosted the celebrations on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, attended by Canadian government officials and parliamentarians, members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Canada, businessmen,  Cuban residents in Canada and members of solidarity with Cuba groups.

In her speech before an audience of over 300 people, Cuban Ambassador Josefina Vidal Ferreiro underlined Cuba´s economic and social achievements after the triumph of the Revolution and informed of the process for the adoption a new Cuban Constitution to be approved by Referendum next February. Vidal Ferreiro talked about the major bilateral accomplishments between Cuba and Canada over the last year.

In addition, the Cuban diplomat reaffirmed Cuba´s stand after Global Affairs Canada´s recent decision to cut its diplomatic staff in Havana and reiterated that “Cuba remains committed to keeping the good state of bilateral relations and strengthening the links with a country with which we keep strong bonds of friendship and cooperation.”

Ms. Alaina Lockhart, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie, on behalf of the Canadian government, offered her condolences to the victims of the tornado that had recently hit Havana and for the damages it had caused. Ms. Lockhart referred to the good state of relations between the two countries and their future prospects.

This was a good opportunity for the Embassy´s staff to celebrate this new anniversary of the Cuban Revolution together with Cubans residing in Canada. Ambassador Josefina Vidal Ferreiro thanked everyone for attending and underscored that Cubans are always welcome to the Embassy of Cuba in Ottawa.
