In 2015, Success Laventille Sec- ondary School and its Steel Or- chestra, Success Stars Pan Sounds
visited Cuba on the invitation of the Cuban Institute of Music and Government of Cuba.
The group performed at several venues in Cuba and participated in workshops. They represented and promoted T&T during that ten-day visit.
Based on the success of that visit and encouraged by the Cuban ambassador Guillermo Vazquez Moreno and his vision for the Education and Cultural Exchange be - tween both countries, a decision was made by the project team to invite a Cuban group to T&T as a reciprocal visit.
El Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba (The National Folk Ensemble of Cuba) is a 36-member
group. They are here for a series of dance and percussion workshops for performing arts students at UWI, UTT, secondary schools as well as the Prime Minister’s Best Village groups.
The highlight of their visit will be concerts at Queen’s Hall on March 9, Naparima Bowl on March 10 and Shaw Park Tobago on March 12.
At the welcome reception the Cubans were entertained by the Success Stars Steel Orchestra, Los Angeles de San Miguel Parang Group, Northwest Laventille Cul- tural Movement, East Indian danc - er Sunil Ramnath and Calypsonian Winston “Gypsy”Peters.
