Montreal, Canada, September 27, 2026. – In a moving ceremony held at the Consulate General of Cuba in Montreal, Cuban residents, solidarity groups, and various guests gathered to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDRs). The event also paid heartfelt tribute to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, in the year marking his centennial, and became a space to denounce the U.S. blockade against Cuba and reiterate to the world the resounding message: Cuba is not a threat; the blockade is.
During the event, the Association of Cuban Residents in Montreal “Raúl Roa García” read a statement expressing its profound rejection of the aggressive policy of the U.S. administration and reaffirming its unwavering support for the Cuban Revolution. In the document, those present ratified their commitment to sovereignty, independence, and peace, categorically rejecting any threat of war or foreign intervention.
A special moment came with a message sent by the National Coordinator of the CDRs and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, who expressed his gratitude for the constant solidarity of his fellow Cubans.
Members of solidarity groups, represented by the Quebec-Cuba Solidarity Coordination Table, also expressed their support for the small island that continues to resist with strength and dignity what they described as the cruelty of the genocidal and inhumane policy of the government of the United States.
To conclude the gathering, the duo formed by Cuban musicians Reinier Valdez Rodríguez and Guillermo Riva Hernández enlivened the family-oriented event and delighted those present with performances of traditional trova music.
