Cuba's Ambassador to the African Union participates in Interfaith Conference on Development and Peace in Africa

Addis Ababa, May 13, 2025.- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the African Union, Lucas Domingo Hernández Polledo, participated in the opening ceremony of the Third Interreligious Conference of Africa, held at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The event was opened in the presence of the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, His Excellency Mr. Taye Atske Selassie, and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf. Both highlighted the central role of religious communities in building peaceful, resilient societies committed to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The conference, organized by the Ethiopian Interfaith Council, the United Religions Initiative-Africa and the G20 Interfaith Forum, with the support of several African Union institutions, takes place on 13 and 14 May under the theme "Africa's religious communities in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals,  the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the G20 Africa 2025 Process."

The forum brings together religious, spiritual and traditional leaders, representatives of faith-based organizations, youth and women's associations, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Ethiopia, policymakers, non-governmental organizations, academics and civil society representatives from Africa and elsewhere.

The participation of the Cuban Ambassador reaffirms Cuba's historic commitment to the principles of solidarity, social justice and international cooperation, as well as its continued support for the strengthening of interreligious dialogue and the efforts of the African continent to achieve peace, integration and sustainable development.
