Cuba's Ambassador presents credentials to the President of Fiji

Suva, April 2 - In a ceremony hosted at the Government House in this capital city, Cuba's Ambassador, Mario Alzugaray, presented to the President of the Republic of Fiji, H.E. Major General r Jioji Konousi Konrote, the letters that acredited him as a the representative of the Cuban Government in that country. During the meeting, the Head of State Fiji ratified the will of its Government to further strengthen bilateral ties and expressed his satisfaction with the multiple coincidences of both nations, as small islands development States. President Konrote also thanked the Cuban cooperation to Fiji on health issues, highlighting the next arrival of two epidemiologists, to assist the local population in the areas most affected by Cyclone Winston.

During his stay in Fiji, the Cuban diplomat, who exercises his functions concurrently from New Zealand, had an intense working program, which included interviews with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Sports and Youth, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, as well as the most important regional organizations stablished in Suva. 

Both President Konrote and Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, expressed to the Cuban Ambassador their satisfaction for the recent developments in the relations between Cuba and the United States, progress considered a recognition to the achievements of our people and of the right to self-determination and respect for the sovereignty of Cuba. They also reinstate their criticism on the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington.

Cuba and Fiji established diplomatic relations in July 2002, moment in which started multiple cooperation projects with many small islands States in the region. As a result, at the 45th session of the Pacific Islands Forum held in 2014, Cuba was admited as a dialogue partner of the organization. (Embacuba NZ)
