Cuba's Deputy Foreign Minister meets with the African Union's Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation

Addis Ababa, July 25, 2024.- Cuba's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Elio E. Rodríguez Perdomo, held a meeting with the African Union's (AU) Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Mohammed Belhocine. 

Deputy Minister Rodríguez highlighted the historical ties that unite Cuba with the countries of Africa that emerged from the support for the decolonization of the African continent and the National Liberation Movement.

Rodríguez highlighted the willingness of the Cuban government to continue working in collaboration with the African Union in areas of mutual interest. In this regard, he referred to the development of cooperation in the field of education, science and technology, as well as the training of professionals in Cuban universities.

 For his part, the Commissioner of the continental organization highlighted Cuba's achievements in the area of education and science, highlighting the results in the creation of vaccines and medicines. 

Belhocine highlighted Cuba's support for African countries in health and education. He also expressed interest in exploring new areas of collaboration.

The Cuban deputy minister was accompanied by the director of Training of Undergraduate Professionals of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), Dr. C. Natalia Martínez Sánchez, and the Senior Specialist in International Relations, MSc. Mirtha Torriente Muñiz, who participate in the Second Interregional Dialogue on Education and Development in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean held at the headquarters of the African Union.
