Delaration by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados

Delaration by Mr. Kerrie Symmonds, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados

We recognize with gratitude the decision of the United States government to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism . Barbados has led this call together with our sister countries of CARICOM for many years. We have done so , because of the tremendous hardship and suffering that this designation has caused to the people of Cuba and because of the great injustice it reflects. We have taken that stand as a matter of principle and on the basis of our own experience. We must never forget that in fact we have been the victims of terrorist attacks when in September 1976 a Cubana aircraft was brought down two miles off Paynes Bay in St James by a bomb placed on board before it left The Grantley Adams International Airport. The criminal suspects have never been brought to justice but found shelter in the same country that labeled Cuba as a state sponsor of Terrorist activity. Matthew 7.35 why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own?
