Addis Ababa, May 25, 2020. The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mr. Thomas Kwesi Quartey sent a congratulatory message to the cherished comrades of Cuba on the occasion of Africa Day.
The message indicated the starting point of the relations of Cuba with Africa during the transatlantic slave trade and acknowledged that later on that Cuba provided valuable assistance to the liberation movements in the continent for independence as well as cooperation in the health and education sectors.
The African leader also expressed the importance of the battle of Cuito Cuanavale to attain the independence of Namibia and the end of Apartheid.
Finally,Ambassador Quartey ratified the full support of the African Union to the lifting of the United States blockade on Cuba expressed through the Resolutions approved by the African Summits and the UN General Assembly.
