Addis Ababa, April 16, 2021. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Mr. Demeke Mekonnen, received this Friday, the Ambassador of Cuba to his country, Vilma Thomas, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the meeting, both representatives exchanged on the good state of relations between the two countries and pointed out the importance of continuing to promote bilateral cooperation in various strategic sectors.
Referring to the current Cuban reality, the diplomat especially referred to the challenge that the epidemiological situation created by COVID-19, has represented for her country, in the midst of the criminal blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, which even in this period has being tightened.
The Ambassador also alluded to the upcoming vote on the Cuban resolution against the blockade at the UN General Assembly, which will be a new opportunity for the world to send an unequivocal message to the new United States administration, on the urgency to put an end, once and for all, to this criminal policy which violates the international law.
Ambassador Vilma Thomas thanked Ethiopia for its historical support to Cuba in the struggle against the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against her country. That support has been demonstrated in multilateral forums such as the United Nations General Assembly and the African Union.
During the audience, Ambassador Vilma Thomas delivered a message from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, to his Ethiopian counterpart.
