The Director General of the OPEC Fund arrives today in Cuba

The Director General of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, will visit Cuba from November 12 to 17, 2019. Dr. Alkhalifa will hold meetings with high level Cuban authorities; as well he will participate in the celebrations for Havana's 500th anniversary, and he plans to sign the fifteenth cooperation agreement between Cuba and OFID, which will benefit the project: “West Havana Sanitation and Pluvial Drainage”.

Over two decades of smooth cooperation, OFID has approved USD 278.5 million in soft loans to help finance projects in Cuba in the agriculture, energy and water sectors.

In collaboration with OFID, various projects are being implemented to rehabilitate water supply and sanitation systems in Las Tunas, Trinidad, Bayamo, Guantánamo and Palma Soriano, in line with the Cuban government's priority for this sensitive sector and as part of Cuba's vast water program.

The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) is the multilateral development finance institution established in 1976 by the member states of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) as a channel of assistance to developing countries. OFID has contributed to the implementation of projects in more than 130 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe.
