Mrs. Joyce Bourne, Director of Multilateral Affairs of the Foreign Ministry received the Cuban Ambassador to Barbados, Francisco Fernández Peña, occasion to discuss cooperation in the field of external relations, as both countries share spaces in various agencies of the United Nations. Besides commenting on the progress of various political international issues, was exchanged on the subject of applications for positions in some international institutions. The Cuban diplomat requested the support of the government of Barbados to the candidacy of his country to the Committee on Cultural Heritage, whose elections must be held in November in Paris during the General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention, which both countries are signatories.
He also moved the interest of Havana to obtain support for its aspiration to integrate the Human Rights Council for the period 2017-2019, whose choices must be made in New York, under the 71 session of the General Assembly the UN. Both cases are currently under evaluation by different countries.
In this context Mrs. Joyce Bourne ratified the excellent ties of cooperation in Barbados and Cuba in these areas, which is broadly in line with foreign policy positions shared by the member countries of CARICOM on various issues in the international arena.
