Directors of the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association welcome the new Cuban Ambassador

The Cuban Ambassador to Austria, H.E. Mrs. Loipa Sánchez Lorenzo had a fraternal meeting with the President and Secretary General of “ÖKG”, the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association; Michael Wögerer and Hermann Pernestorfer respectively, as part of her initial activities in the Diplomatic Mission.

They provided information about the solidarity organization and its main activities, highlighting the events that have taken place throughout this year, on the occasion of the celebration of 50th anniversary of the organization. Among these, the public celebration held in June in the presence of the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Fernando González Llort, President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples (ICAP, by its Spanish initials) and Member of the National Assembly of the People's Power, was greatly important.

The Ambassador thanked ÖKG for its permanent support and accompaniment of Cuba in all its battles: in the denunciation of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the United States; in the claim for the return of the territory illegally occupied by the United States Naval Base in Guantánamo; in the demand for the release of the Cuban Five; in offering truthful information about Cuba in the face of media manipulation campaigns; in the work of recovery from damages caused by hurricanes, tornadoes and other natural disasters; in the Voluntary Work Brigades; among other activities.

The meeting was an opportunity to exchange ideas on joint activities to be carried out in the next period.

ÖKG was founded in 1969. It has a broad membership and it is active throughout Austria, with branches in Vienna, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, and Salzburg.
