Organized by the Association of Friends of Cuba in Quebec and La France Insoumise, the screening of the documentary À l'assaut du ciel brought together members of various associations, friends of Cuba, and other guests. The film portrays Cuba as a historical and contemporary epicenter of anti-imperialist resistance. It presents the island not only as a country that faces the U.S. blockade with dignity, but also as a living symbol of international solidarity.
During the gathering, Cuba’s Consul General in Montreal briefed attendees on the difficult situation facing the Cuban people as a result of the intensification of the blockade and the strengthened extraterritorial reach of the United States’ unilateral coercive measures. She emphasized that these policies constitute collective punishment of the entire population, affecting fundamental rights such as healthcare, food, and access to basic services.
The event concluded with a moving performance by the Cuban musical group Proyecto Tradicional Habana, whose musicians offered a taste of the island’s rich culture.
