Embassy of Cuba in Canada participates in celebrations for Spanish Language Day

Ottawa, April 23, 2026.– The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Canada took part in various activities marking the celebration of Spanish Language Day, reaffirming its commitment to promoting the Spanish language and Hispanic culture within Canada’s multicultural context.

In this framework, the Ambassador of Cuba, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, attended the event “Through the Senses,” organized by the Global Centre for Pluralism, a space that fostered cultural and linguistic exchange from an inclusive perspective, highlighting the richness and diversity of Spanish-speaking communities.

Likewise, Consul Mariset Vázquez and first secretary Reynier del Calvo participated in the celebration held at École Polyvalente Le Carrefour secondary school in the city of Gatineau, Quebec. This event stood out for its multicultural character, where not only the Spanish language was promoted, but also the traditions, artistic expressions, and customs of Latin American countries among young students.

The participation of the Cuban representation in these activities underscores the importance of preserving and promoting the Spanish language as a vehicle of identity, history, and cooperation among peoples.

Spanish is currently the second most spoken native language in the world by number of speakers, with more than 500 million people, and one of the main languages of international communication. In Canada, interest in learning Spanish continues to grow, consolidating it as one of the most widely studied languages in the education system and reflecting the strengthening cultural and human ties between Canada and the Spanish-speaking world.
