Ottawa, June 4, 2018.- The building of the Embassy of Cuba in the federal capital of Canada was filled this morning with the voices and laughter of 50 children attending 5th and 6th grades at Hopewell Avenue Public School, which belongs to the community in which the diplomatic headquarters is located.
In response to a request from the school, diplomatic officials Máriem Martínez and Freddy Rodríguez offered the children information about the work of the Embassy, the relations between Cuba and Canada and the dissimilar ties that bind both countries. The children were especially interested in the celebration in Cuba every year of the Terry Fox race, known as the Marathon of Hope, the largest of its kind that takes place outside of Canada. The natural attractions that make the Caribbean Island one of the favorite tourist destinations for Canadians, was another topic on which they asked multiple questions and shared their experiences, since not a few have visited Cuba on vacation with their parents.
Hopewell Avenue Public School has a special meaning for the diplomatic mission of Cuba in Ottawa, since the children of the officials and workers of the Embassy have studied there for years. At this moment, four Cuban children are studying at different levels in that education center.
