Esteban Lazo held fraternal meetings with top parliamentary authorities and Cuban collaborators in Namibia

WINDHOEK, Namibia. –After his arrival in the capital of the African nation on February 27, the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, held a fraternal meeting with Peter Katjavivi, Spesker of the National Assembly of the sister Republic of Namibia, at the headquarters of this legislative body.

In these difficult times for the Namibian people, we are here to personally confirm our support, solidarity and the most heartfelt condolences, on behalf of the Party, the State, the Government and the Cuban people, for the physical departure of Dr. Sam Nujoma, "a symbol in the fight against apartheid, a worthy son of Africa and an extraordinary friend of Cuba," said the head of the Cuban Parliament.

He also said that Sam Nujoma had shown a special affection for Cuba and support for the Revolution throughout his life, recognized the contribution of our country to the struggles for the liberation of Africa and the end of apartheid, and had a close friendship with Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz. He stressed that the Namibian leader was awarded the Order of José Martí in 1991, the highest distinction granted by the Cuban State; and that Sam Nujoma always supported the just cause of our people for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government.

For his part, the head of the Namibian National Assembly thanked, on behalf of the legislative body, for the participation of a high-level Cuban delegation, headed by Esteban Lazo, in the State Funeral of Dr. Sam Nujoma, and ratified the will to continue strengthening bilateral relations, based on the solid legacy of friendship between the historical leaders of both countries.

Then, Esteban Lazo and Peter Katjavivi went together to pay posthumous tribute to Sam Nujoma, in front of his coffin located in the Parliament Gardens, as part of his procession for the popular tribute in the city of Windhoek.

Later, the President of the National Assembly of People's Power spoke with Lukas Sinimbo Muha, President of the National Council of the Republic of Namibia. In addition, he held a fruitful meeting with the collaborators of the Cuban State Mission in Windhoek, where he was interested in the results achieved and projections for the stage, and shared various aspects of the national current affairs.

Esteban Lazo arrived this Thursday in the capital of this African nation to participate in the State Funeral of the Founding Father of the Namibian Nation and the first President of the sister Republic of Namibia, Dr. Sam Nujoma. The Cuban delegation is also made up of José Ramón Monteagudo Ruiz, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party and head of its Agri-Food Department; and the Heroes of the Republic of Cuba Army Corps General Joaquín Quintas Solá, Deputy Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, and Fernando González Llort, President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP); as well as Sergio Vigoa de la Uz, ambassador of the Greater Antilles in this sister country.
