The exhibition "Art for Cuba," currently open at the Bellhaus Atelier and Gallery in Windhoek, has brought together artists, institutional representatives, and friends of the island in an initiative aimed at transforming artistic creation into tangible aid for the Cuban healthcare system.
The historic friendship between Namibia and Cuba once again took center stage in the African nation's National Assembly with the unanimous approval of a motion of solidarity and support for the Cuban people. This move comes amidst the difficulties the Caribbean nation faces as a result of economic and financial measures imposed by the United States.
Cuba’s role in the struggle for Namibia’s independence was highlighted today during a warm and cordial meeting between Ambassador Sergio Vigoa de la Uz and His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba, the African nation’s second president.
During the exchange—held at the legendary freedom fighter's residence in the northern Ohangwena region—the diplomat addressed the difficult situation facing the Cuban people due to the U.S. government's oil blockade, which has subjected the island to a silent genocide.
WINDHOEK — Namibian Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has called on Namibians and corporate entities to support Cuba through a national solidarity campaign aimed at helping the Caribbean nation cope with humanitarian and economic challenges linked to long-standing U.S. sanctions.
Ngurare made the appeal during a courtesy visit by Cuban Ambassador to Namibia Sergio Vigoa de la Uz in Windhoek, said his office in a statement released on Sunday.
“We will continue to condemn the blockade of United State government against Cuba. Now that they have failed for more than six decades in their attempts to destroy Cuba, they have sunk to their lowest level by inflicting suffering on the Cuban people through sanctions against any country that wishes to send them oil and petrol. It is unacceptable, it is unfortunate”, said Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah at the commemoration of the 48th anniversary of the Cassinga Massacre, held in the Omusati region.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Dr. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and the National Assembly Parliamentary Friendship group held an engagement with the Namibia–Cuba Friendship Association, led by Honorable Helmuth Kangulohi Angula (former member of Parliament), accompanied by other members of the Steering Committee.
The close fraternal ties that unite the peoples of Cuba and Namibia, and the island's role in the war for independence of this African nation, were highlighted in a meeting between Ambassador Sergio Vigoa de la Uz and the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Security and Safety of Namibia, Honorable Lucia Iipumbu.
