Addis Ababa, March 05, 2024. The Association of Friendship between the peoples of Ethiopia and Cuba focused on the commemorative act for the 46th anniversary of the victory of Karramara-Jijiga. The activity took place at the Ethiopia-Cuba Friendship Park with the presence of war veterans, children of Ethiopian martyrs, Ethiopian-Cuban and members of the diplomatic mission.
The Cuban ambassador to Ethiopia, Jorge Lefebre Nicolás, in the opening remarks of the event, evoked the greatness of the victory of Karramara as a fundamental fact in the strengthening of the brotherhood between the Ethiopian and Cuban peoples for 49 years, and said: "A friendship was forged with the blood of Ethiopians and Cubans in Karramara, and that continues to this day, with the love of the Ethiopian people for Cuba. That is why we say that Ethiopia will always have a fraternal friend in Cuba and we Cubans know that we can count on Ethiopia."
The event was also attended by the president of the Association of Friendship between the Peoples of Ethiopia and Cuba, Abebe Ayelew and retired Ethiopian generals who participated in the Ogaden War, who highlighted the importance of the Karramara victory for the safeguarding of Ethiopian sovereignty and admiration for Cuban altruism.
During the activity, floral offerings were placed by the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission on behalf of the people and government of Cuba, at the base of the monuments that remember the 163 Cubans who fell during Operation Baraguá.
