Addis Ababa, December 31, 2023. Members of the Cuban diplomatic and state mission in Ethiopia celebrated the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution together with Cuban residents, members of the Cuban-Ethiopian Friendship Association and friends of the Venezuelan and Nicaraguan Embassies.
The Cuban ambassador to Ethiopia, Jorge Lefebre Nicolás, during his opening remarks, highlighted the strength of the Cuban people after living for more than six decades under a strong economic, commercial and financial blockade that affects all spheres of the country.
The Cuban diplomat asserted that during 2023 the effects of the blockade continued to be the main obstacle to the development of Cuba's economic relations, which is why during the year the Cuban economy suffered several setbacks. Lefebre said that, despite the economic needs, faith in the triumph was never extinguished and "that we are never going to give up."
He also stressed that 2023 was a year where ties with Ethiopia were strengthened from all points of view: emotional, historical, professional and political.
The Cuban ambassador thanked the presence of several generations of Ethiopians in the activity, while recognizing the unconditional support and solidarity provided to the Cuban diplomatic headquarters in Ethiopia. "This is also his home," he emphasized.
The ambassadors of Venezuela, Modesto Ruiz, and Nicaragua, Lautaro Sandino, also participated in the activity.
