Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister receives his Cuban counterpart in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, July 28, 2025.- Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, received his Cuban counterpart, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, this Monday in Addis Ababa. Tapia Fonseca is in the country to participate in the Second Stocktaking Moment of the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4).

During the cordial meeting, both parties engaged in a fruitful dialogue that reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and Ethiopia. They agreed on the need to revitalize bilateral collaboration, with a focus on key sectors such as agriculture, health, education, science and technology, as well as joint initiatives in multilateral forums.

The Cuban Deputy Prime Minister praised Ethiopia’s progress in recent years, particularly in food security and sustainable agricultural development, pillars of the structural transformation being pursued by the African nation. He also expressed Cuba’s interest in sharing successful experiences and promoting technical and scientific exchange within the framework of South-South cooperation.

The meeting took place in a spirit of brotherhood and highlighted 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, marked by a legacy of solidarity, shared sacrifice, and mutual respect. Tapia Fonseca was accompanied by members of the Cuban delegation and senior Ethiopian officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting was part of an intense work agenda that the Cuban Deputy Prime Minister is carrying out in Ethiopia, in the context of the UNFSS+4, with the goal of consolidating strategic alliances and strengthening high-level political dialogue.
