Addis Ababa, January 31, 2025.– The Cuban delegation, lead by Yudí M. Rodríguez Hernández, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Head of the Department of Services, was received at the Ethiopian Parliament as part of her participation in the Second Congress of the Prosperity Party.
The delegation, which was also accompanied by members of the Diplomatic Mission of Cuba in the country, was received by the Director of Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Peace Affairs of the House of Peoples Representatives of FDRE, H.E. Dr. Dima Nogo Serbo and the President and Vice-President of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba, Dr. Abdulkedir Gelgelo and Dr. Yeshimbet Demissie.
During the meeting, Rodríguez highlighted the historical ties of friendship between Cuba and Ethiopia, as well as Ethiopian support in the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island.
For his part, Dr. Nogo highlighted the close cooperation between the two nations and recalled the unconditional support that Cuba provided to Ethiopia at key moments in its history. Nogo expressed the commitment of the Ethiopian Parliament to continue strengthening popular and parliamentary relations between Cuba and Ethiopia.
The president of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba, said that the creation of the Friendship Group is a sign of the brotherhood between both peoples, at the same time he stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral ties in various areas, including education, health and technical cooperation.
Likewise, the vice president of the Group, Dr. Demissie, referred to the international efforts in favor of the exclusion of Cuba from the list of State sponsors of terrorism, a measure that she considers unfair and unfounded and highlighted the will to continue defending the Cuban cause against the blockade and its expulsion of the list.
The meeting reaffirmed the willingness of both nations to continue strengthening their diplomatic and cooperation relations, in an international context marked by common challenges and the need to strengthen solidarity between peoples.
