Vienna, March 1. At the Enlarged Federal Executive Board meeting of the Left-Wing Trade Union Bloc of the Austrian Trade Union Federation (GLB), a resolution was unanimously adopted condemning the U.S. blockade against Cuba and expressing support for the island. The trade unionists in attendance expressed their support for Cuba and their intention to take concrete actions to make their solidarity more effective.
Prior to the resolution’s adoption, the Cuban Ambassador to Austria, Pablo Berti Oliva, outlined the impact of the coercive measures on all sectors of the population, as well as the difficulties facing the Caribbean nation, particularly following the intensification of the blockade after the U.S. President’s Executive Order issued on January 29, which escalates financial persecution and harassment against Cuba.
The meeting was attended by union representatives from several Austrian federal states, who discussed with the Ambassador ways to strengthen international solidarity with the Cuban people.
With the adoption of this resolution, the number of Austrian civil society organizations joining the call for solidarity with Cuba continues to grow.
