Experts and Cuban cigar enthusiasts held a meeting

The Hague, June 18, 2026.—Experts and Cuban cigar enthusiasts held a meeting this Thursday afternoon with Cuban Ambassador Eva Yelina Silva Walker to discuss the current situation on the island in the face of growing threats of military aggression by the U.S. government.

“The Habano: Where the History, Culture, and Resilience of a People Intertwine” was the central theme of the discussion, in which—drawing on the affection and friendship that binds Cuban cigar enthusiasts to the Largest of the Antilles—participants spoke about the criminal U.S. blockade and the hostile actions aimed at suffocating and bringing about the collapse of the country.

The Cuban diplomat described as mendacious and offensive the arguments used by that government to justify the genocide against the Cuban people, highlighting their patriotic and anti-imperialist heritage and their conviction that they would never accept a return to imperial domination. The measures adopted by the U.S. against the Cuban people cause suffering, affect all sectors of society, and disrupt the daily lives of the millions of Cubans who live on the island, she said.

Several attendees expressed interest in the response and preparations to address this complex situation, as well as in the recent measures announced by the Cuban government aimed at opening new investment opportunities, stimulating entrepreneurship, streamlining management mechanisms to make the economy more flexible, expanding investment possibilities, and easing administrative control over the economy.

During the moving evening, a donation was presented to the Solidarity Network with Cuba in the Netherlands for the purchase of photovoltaic systems for the Cuban public health system.
