First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba arrives to Nigeria.

Nigeria, May 27th, 2023. The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba and representative to the United Nations, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, arrived to Abuja this Saturday to participate in the presidential transition that will take place on May 29th.

Gerardo Peñalver Portal was received at the Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, by representatives of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Cuban Diplomatic Mission in the country.

The Cuban diplomat was appointed by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Republic of Cuba as Special Envoy of the Cuban government. The delegation headed by Peñalver Portal will participate in various activities planned in the power transition program, including a military ceremony in Eagle Square, the main ceremony place in Abuja.

During his stay in Nigeria, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba will hold meetings with different representatives of the countries participating in the event and with representatives of the new government.
