Foreign Ministry representatives of both countries meet to discuss issues of common interest for the next chairmanship of the Association of Caribbean States (AEC) which will be occupied by Cuba in the period 2016-2017. To this end, the Director of the Caricom-Caribbean Unit, Rodney Taylor, Ambassador of Barbados to Caricom, Robert Morris, and the official Mandisa Downes, received the Cuban Ambassador Francisco Fernández Peña.
During the meeting the Cuban diplomat sought support from the Barbadian government to the candidacy of his country to chair the Council of Ministers of the ACS and announced that the Seventh Summit Meeting will be held in Havana next June. In this regard, the official call as well as the draft substantial documents to be discussed will be submitted soon to the evaluation of all member states.
Besides aspects of bilateral issues, in that meeting regional cooperation in the context of the working mechanism established between Cuba and Caricom were also treated, under which several projects of mutual benefit to the Caribbean region develop.
