New Delhi, September 2nd 2016.- On the occasion of the visit to India by the Secretary (Regional) of Bilateral Affairs of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, from 30 August to 1st September for bilateral talks, was carried out an intense work program and other visits organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India and the Embassy of Cuba in this country.
As part of the program, Peñalver Portal met separately with Preeti Saran Secretary (East), and Ashok Das, Joint Secretary in charge of Latin America and the Caribbean in the Ministry of External Affairs of India. The sustained talks were conducive to exchange on important issues of bilateral and multilateral interest, economic cooperation and other matters of international relations.
In the wide range of topics covered in both meetings was particularly highlighted the update made by the Cuban diplomat on the persistence of the unjust blockade against Cuba, despite the positive progress made in the relations Cuba- US; as well as the relevance of the forthcoming NAM Summit Movement, to be held in Venezuela in mid-September.
The cordial meeting held by the Cuban official with a group of deputies from different political forces in the Indian Parliament was of great interest as part of the historical relations of friendship and cooperation that exist between Cuba and the Asian nation.
Similarly and positive was the participation of journalists at a meeting with the press held at the Foreign Correspondents Club of South Asian, in New Delhi. In this context, an interesting exchange on Cuba-India relations took place; as well as, about the economic and social reality of the Caribbean island, especially on the unjust blockade that last year in the framework of the UN General Assembly attracted the overwhelming rejection of the international community, expressed in the approval for the twenty fourth time of a Resolution demanding its removal.
