Friends of Austria contribute to the rehabilitation of Water Supply Systems in Santiago de Cuba province

Vienna, 18 June 2020.  Twelve communities in the city of Santiago de Cuba province have been benefited by the cooperation project "Rehabilitation of Water Supply Systems in Santiago de Cuba province", coordinated with the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources and promoted by the branch of ÖKG, the Austrian-Cuban Friendship Association in Carinthia region, with the support of the Government of that city.

The project which amounts to 10,000 euros, consisted of the donation of 13 pumping equipment from Carinthia, Austria, approved in 2018 by the Board for Development Cooperation Policy of that region.  ÖKG was in charge of purchasing and sending the equipment to Cuba.

The 51,552 inhabitants of Santiago de Cuba province who have benefited from the project will be guaranteed the delivery of drinking water, with a better quality of service, in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals regarding: “ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all”.

The Aqueduct and Sewerage authorities, benefited from the Project and the Cuban Embassy in Austria, which supported it, have thanked ÖKG and the Government of Carinthia for their gesture of solidarity.
