Wellington, October 20, 2016. -Members of the Cuba Friendship Society in Dunedin, New Zealand, issued a statement denouncing the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, demanding its immediate end. The document was published in the Otago Daily Times, one of the majors newspaper of this southern region.
In its message, the group of friends of Cuba expressed its concern at the continuation of this irrational policy, more than one year after the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with the United States. At the same time denounced the sponsorship by Washington of subversive activities against the Caribbean island, something that is not well known and is inconsistent in the context of the current process of rapprochement between the two countries.
The letter, which ends with the hope that the United States could listen and react to the international appeal to end the blockade, also requests the return of the illegally occupied territory of the Guantanamo Base, which has served as a detention and torture centre.
The Cuba Friendship Society in Dunedin has planned other actions of support to Cuba in the context of the vote on the draft resolution demanding the lifting of the US Blockade, to be discussed in the coming days at the United Nations. (Embacuba NZ)
