Fruitful exchange between Cuban Ambassador and Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs

Cuban Ambassador Lázaro Herrera welcomed by Hon. Mr. Ousainou Darboe, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambian Abroad

The Ambassador of Cuba to The Gambia, Lázaro Herrera, was welcomed in the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, by the Honorable Minister Mr. Ousainou Darboe, with whom the visitor held a fruitful exchange that included the support to the fight against the blockade on Cuba, as well as the development of bilateral ties and other issues of common interest.

With regard to the upcoming vote on the resolution which the UN General Assembly approves every year with the support of almost all of its member states, demanding the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than five decades, the diplomat of the island referred to the heavy damage caused due the imposition of such genocidal policy. He thanked the timely response of the Gambian government to the letter of the Secretary General of the UN on this matter, as well as the traditional support of the African country to the resolution that each year demands an end of the blockade.

In this regard, the Gambian Foreign Minister described the blockade as an act that violates human rights and expressed the unwavering position of his government to support Cuba in the UN to demand once again the cessation of such policy.

In addressing bilateral relations, the Cuban ambassador praised the existing communication between both countries in the international organizations, the reciprocal support in the aspirations to various candidacies and the coincidence of positions in matters of common interest in the international arena.

Both parties reiterated their willingness to continue working to further strengthen bilateral links.
