Vienna, May 15. The rejection of unilateral coercive measures and their consequences that limit the full development of States was emphasized by the G77+China Chapter in Vienna during its address to the Program and Budget Committee (PBC) of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The speech delivered by the Permanent Representative of Kenya, Maurice Makoloo, highlights that “The Group remains firmly convinced that upholding multilateralism, which includes supporting an effective United Nations development system and avoiding the enactment and imposition of unilateral coercive measures and protectionist actions on developing countries that are inconsistent with international law and the Charter of the United Nations, is essential to enhance international solidarity and safeguard the legitimate interests of all Member States and strengthen capacities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The G77 Chapter in Vienna continuously intervenes in defense of the interests of its Member States, being the rejection of unilateral coercive measures one of the aspects promoted by Cuba and supported by the members of the Group. During 2025, under the Pro Tempore Presidency of Kenya, the G77+China Chapter has made similar pronouncements before the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Preparatory Organization (CTBTO) and the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS).
