Grenada launches solidarity campaign with Cuba

St. George, April 10, 2026 — A large-scale solidarity initiative from the Grenadian people toward Cuba was announced on April 9 through Grenada’s national television. The campaign will run from April 14 to May 14, 2026, with a month of concentrated activities across the country.

According to its organizers, the initiative aims to raise funds and mobilize medical, energy, and other resources to be sent to Cuba, which is facing growing difficulties as a result of the economic blockade imposed by the United States. In recent weeks, the Caribbean nation has endured power outages, food shortages, and the suspension of critical surgeries, consequences of U.S. hostility toward the Cuban Revolution.

The start of this solidarity campaign coincides with the 47th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Grenada, an event that took place on April 14, 1979. This date reinforces the symbolism of the initiative, which seeks to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The campaign’s promoters, among them Dr. Malachy Dottin, president of the Committee of Grenadian Graduates in Cuba, explained that various sectors of Grenadian society—trade unions, churches, businesspeople, farmers, fishers, artists, and community organizations—are being called upon to join. Fundraising activities such as breakfasts, lunches, dinners, concerts, and targeted collections are planned, with the goal of giving every citizen the opportunity to contribute to this humanitarian effort.

For nearly five decades, Cuba has stood by Grenada in decisive moments, contributing in areas such as health, education, and infrastructure, with emblematic examples like the construction of the Maurice Bishop International Airport. In turn, Grenadian authorities and civil society representatives have, in recent months, expressed their solidarity with the largest island of the Antilles, victim of the accumulated effects of a U.S. blockade lasting more than six decades.
