Kuwait, January 27, 2017. A group of 12 high school Kuwaiti students visited Cuba from January 20 to 27, 2017, sponsored by the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and in coordination of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources of Cuba.
The students met with the Kuwaiti ambassador to Cuba, Fadel Al-Khalaf, who asked them to take the time to get to know Cuba and its people.
During their stay in Cuba, they visited the Rehabilitation of the Water and Sewerage Network in Havana, visited sites where the project is being carried out, and the Albear aqueduct.
They met with Inés María Chapman, President of the National Institute of Water Resources, who praised Kuwait's efforts and role in supporting development in its country through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED). Chapman said that KFAED has granted five loans to Cuba for a total of KD 31 million, noting that four of them are projects related to water, for the rehabilitation of aqueducts and sewerage in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Havana and Holguín.
The fifth loan is for the construction of 34 thermoelectric plants in 11 Cuban provinces. The students visited the National Institute of Water Resources and received information about the work carried out by this institution.
They also visited Old Havana, declared by UNESCO to World Heritage Site, as well as visited several tourist and cultural sites, such as the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba, the Castle of the Morro in Havana, as well as the tourist pole of Varadero, Among other places of interest.
KFAED has been developing a student program since 2010, with an annual selection of a group of high-performance 11th grade students visiting countries where KFAED develops cooperation projects.
