Port of Spain, January 1, 2025. An extensive article devoted to the 67th anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution was published in the Guardian newspaper in Trinidad and Tobago.
By comparing the socio-economic situation in Cuba during the 1950s with the development indicators achieved after January 1, 1959, the article highlights how several development indicators in Cuba were reversed following the rise to power of the Revolutionary Government under the leadership of Fidel Castro.
Among other achievements, it underscores the eradication of illiteracy, the elimination of large landed estates (latifundia), and advances in gender equality. All of this, the article notes, was accomplished despite the substantial economic losses caused by the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba, as well as the unjust inclusion of the country on the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
The Guardian is the oldest newspaper still in circulation in Trinidad in printed format and has a strong presence on social media, along with other media outlets that make up the “Guardian Group.”
