Guyana, Georgetown October 6th , 2026. A solemn ceremony was held on October 6, 2026, in Guyana, to commemorate the 73 victims of this heinous crime—57 Cubans, 11 Guyanese, and 5 Koreans—attended by the Honourable Hugh Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana; Guyanese ministers Steven Jacobs and Vanessa Benn; and other high-ranking government officials. During the commemoration, floral tributes were laid at the monument erected in memory of the victims at the University of Guyana.In his remarks, Foreign Minister the Honourable Hugh Todd spoke out against all forms of terrorism and advocated for preserving our region as a Zone of Peace. The Guyanese Minister reaffirmed that the criminal terrorist act would never be forgotten and reiterated the need for international cooperation to combat this scourge. Family members of the victims, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of Guyanese solidarity groups supporting Cuba also participated in the event.On October 6, 1976, the Cubana de Aviación aircraft CU-455 was destroyed in mid-air and crashed into the territorial waters of Barbados as a result of a terrorist attack. That date has been designated as "CARICOM-Cuba Day Against Terrorism."
