Guyana, Georgetown, July 26, 2025. The Guyana Peace Council (GPC) greets the seventy-second (72nd) anniversary of the attack on the Moncada barracks in the province of Santiago de Cuba and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes in Bayamo, by a dedicated and heroic group of Cuban revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro. Moncada marked a high point in the long and heroic struggle of the Cuban people for national and social liberation. The Guyana Peace Council greets the Cuban people who, over the years, have endured the hardships imposed by the harsh and inhumane blockade of the United States. The peoples of the global south, including Brics and Caricom, owe a debt of gratitude for the unforgettable sacrifices, enormous contributions made by the Cuban people to assist them in times of humanitarian crisis, natural disasters, and, above all, for their independence, national and social liberation.
