The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba is pleased to announce the fore coming visit of the prestigious Cuban Dance Company, Habana Compas Dance, as part of the Third Phase of the Trinidad and Tobago – Cuba Educational and Cultural Exchange, an initiative that was started by the Success Laventille School in conjunction with several Cuban and Trinidadian Institutions.
The program of Habana Compas Dance is scheduled to take place from the 12th – 22nd of January. In addition to the two full concerts that Habana Compas Dance will be performing; Friday January 18th at 7:00pm Lord Kitchener Auditorium, NAPA, Port of Spain and Sunday 20th January at 6:00pm at SAPA, San Fernando, the visit will also entail workshops for performing arts students of Secondary Tertiary Schools and a Forum on Arts and Education.
Habana Compas Dance is a Cuban dance company that was founded in 2004 and is now internationally recognized for combining dance and various percussive instruments such as bata drums, congas, drumsticks, castanets, chac chac, heels, sandals, stools and percussive chairs, among others.
The Trinidad and Tobago – Cuba Educational and Cultural Exchange began in 2015 when the steel orchestra from Success Laventille School, Success Starts Pan Sounds, visited Cuba on an invitation for ten days of workshops, performances and sightseeing. Following that a Cuban Folkloric group, El Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba, visited Trinidad and Tobago in 2017. Over 100 students from schools across Trinidad and over 60 students from Tobago participated in and benefited from the workshops and performances by El Conjunto Folklorico.
The event will take place in the frameworks of the excellent relationship of cooperation between our countries in different sectors.
