Head of the Cuban Mission in Liberia goes to sign the Book of Condolences for the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

Monrovia, January 5, 2023 - This morning, the Cuban Head of Mission in Liberia Mercedes L. Martinez Herrera went to sign the Book of Condolences opened at the Apostolic Nunciature in Monrovia, on the occasion of the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

The Cuban diplomat conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Cuban people and government and echoed the message of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, who said: "On behalf of the Cuban people, the Government and myself, I convey heartfelt condolences on the death of Pope Benedict XVI. I extend our deepest condolences to his relatives, to the Curia and to the Catholic community".

Pope Benedict XVI expressed affectionate feelings towards the Cuban people and spoke out against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years.
