Homage to the Apostle reiterates the need for Latin American unity

Vienna, January 28- The Cuban Embassy in Austria, together with friends of the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (ÖKG), Cuban residents and the Latin American diplomatic corps in Vienna, paid homage to José Martí on the occasion of the 172nd anniversary of his birth.

During the ceremony held at the Plaza de los Próceres Latinoamericanos, on the banks of the Danube River, the attendees recalled the legacy of the greatest Cuban and reiterated their call for a united America.

In front of the bust commemorating Cuba's National Hero, Ambassador Pablo Berti Oliva recalled that, during his short and fruitful life, the Apostle, dedicated all his efforts to the liberation of Cuba from the Spanish colonial yoke, although he kept as a long-term priority the betterment of humanity.

“José Martí's thought is key to understanding the processes that Latin America is going through today and to understanding many of the world's problems. As Martí taught us, only the alliance of all forces in the region will make it possible to establish a regional integration plan based on solidarity, reciprocity, social justice, preservation of culture and peace,” the Cuban diplomat added.

Every January 28, the Cuban Embassy in Austria convenes a tribute in which participants ratify the commitment to keep alive Marti's ideals and work.
