Inauguration of business promotion office with Cuba in Mumbai.

The Cuba Bureau at the Office of the Indian Economic and Trade Organization (IETO) was inaugurated on August 7 in the city of Mumbai. In a ceremony attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in India, Alejandro Simancas Marin, and the president of IETO, Asif Iqbal, this center was formally constituted, which will aim to promote trade and economic relations between the two countries. The event was also attended by a special Cuban banking delegation, headed by Yamile Berra Cires, Vice President of the Central Bank, and composed of representatives of commercial banks.

Gaurav Sharma, Commercial Commissioner of the Cuba Bureau, welcomed the participants to the new headquarters of the institution and explained the purpose of exploring and identifying business, trade and investment opportunities between Cuban and Indian companies. He also pointed out that they are preparing a delegation to participate in the next edition of the Havana Fair.

The Vice President of the Central Bank and the Cuban Ambassador praised the efforts made by IETO to strengthen economic and trade relations.

Later, and within the framework of the Cuba-India business event, organized by IETO, Gaurav Sharma signed several memorandums of understanding with different Indian institutions for the promotion of their business in Cuba in the field of electric vehicles, the commercialization of Indian rice, as well as the Cuban vaccine against lung cancer, among others. These actions are intended to stimulate bilateral trade and economic ties between Cuba and the state of Maharastra, whose capital is the city of Mumbai, the country's main financial center.
