India expects success at the G77+China Summit under Cuba's leadership

In response to a question from Prensa Latina on India's participation in the G77+China Summit of Heads of State and Government to be held in Cuba on September 15 and 16, Arindam Bagchi, spokesman for the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ratified the importance his country attaches to this bloc of which it is a member and its meetings.

He considered the meeting of developing nations in Cuba an opportunity for India to express its concerns, particularly about the United Nations.

India's participation in that Summit acquires a special connotation this year due to the role of the South Asian nation as president pro tempore of the G20 and the celebration in New Delhi, on September 9 and 10, of the meeting of dignitaries of that grouping.

The central theme of the upcoming meeting on the Island will be "Current Development Challenges: The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation", according to the invitation issued by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who heads this year's G77.

The Group of 77 plus China, founded in 1964 within the Non-Aligned Movement, is a coalition of 134 countries to promote the collective economic interests of its members and create an enhanced joint negotiating capacity at the UN.

The grouping has enormous challenges for the development of its nations, which together represent 80 percent of the world's population and more than two thirds of the UN membership, Cuban authorities said.
