Addis Ababa, March 8, 2026.- To mark International Women's Day, celebrated for the 115th time globally and the 50th time in Ethiopia, a variety of commemorative activities took place in Addis Ababa, bringing together thousands of participants.
The initiatives, promoted by the city's mayor, Adanech Abiebie, included a 5-kilometer fun run and mass sporting events, in which more than 120,000 women participated. The route began on the urban corridor connecting Bole Terminal, Atlas and Urael and concluded at Women's Square, one of the iconic spaces dedicated to recognizing the role of women in Ethiopian society.
The Cuban Ambassador to Ethiopia, Meylin Suarez, also participated in these celebrations, joining the day's events which included the presence of outstanding athletes, citizens of the capital and representatives of the international community, in an atmosphere of recognition of the role of women in promoting equality and development.
