KOMintern Statement: Solidarity with Cuba, threatened by the United States

As an Austrian trade union organization, we strongly condemn the US government's latest criminal aggression against Cuba. The US escalation aims to prevent the supply of oil, which is essential for life, to the island and thus provoke a humanitarian crisis among the population.

The US wants to provoke a crisis in Cuba through its criminal and unjust policy of economic, commercial, and financial blockade. For more than six decades, the United States has waged this war against Cuba and believes it can deliver the “final blow” through hunger and misery.

The United States is mistaken, because the conscious, courageous, and revolutionary people will never turn against their elected government and their country, regardless of the unilateral coercive measures taken by the empire.

The Trump administration uses blatant lies as a pretext for its policy of aggression. Cuba is not a threat to other countries and has never been a threat to the United States. The pretext constructed by the empire led on January 3 to the criminal attack against Venezuela and the kidnapping of that country's president and first lady, and now to the attempt to strangle Cuba through the blockade.

The empire must take note that Cuba has shown that another world, a world of sovereignty and self-determination, is possible. Cuba is a country that does not bow down and is not willing to submit to an empire. That is why it is blockaded and attacked, under the pretext of doing so for the good of the Cuban people.

Cuba is living proof that imperialism can be successfully confronted.
The only real threat to the world is the aggressive attitude of the United States. Cuba exports education and health, not weapons and death. We express our firm and unwavering solidarity with this revolutionary Cuba.

 We demand that the United States:
end its aggression and economic strangulation of Cuba;
respect international law;
respect the United Nations Charter;
remove Cuba from the illegal list of countries that allegedly support terrorism.

 We demand that the European Union:
 condemn the actions of the United States, which exercises the law of the strongest;
categorically speak out against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of Cuba by the United States;
support Cuba through bilateral development agreements to compensate for the damage caused by the criminal blockade.

 We demand that the Austrian government:
call on the United States and the European Union to lift the unilateral coercive measures against Cuba;
to actively oppose the US blockade measures, in accordance with the UN resolution on “the need to lift the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba” of November 29, 2025.

 Long live Cuba!
 Long live the Revolution!
 Long live international solidarity!
