Kuwait, August 13, 2026. The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Kuwait held a commemorative event to mark the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, whose legacy and ideals remain fully relevant and continue to serve as a model for the struggle for sovereignty, social justice, and solidarity among peoples. The event was attended by ambassadors accredited to Kuwait, journalists, members of the diplomatic corps, and friends of Cuba, who joined in paying tribute.
The opening remarks were delivered by the Cuban Ambassador, Alain Pérez Torres, who highlighted the enduring relevance of Fidel’s ideas and work, as well as his contribution to the defense of peoples’ independence, peace, and international cooperation. In his remarks, he also emphasized the internationalist dimension of Fidel’s career and his unwavering commitment to just causes around the world.
As part of the program, the documentary “Fidel Diplomático,” by filmmaker Fabiola López, was screened. The film explores an essential aspect of the life and career of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution. The screening allowed those in attendance to gain insight into Fidel’s intense diplomatic work and his vision of international relations.
The tribute also featured remarks by the Nicaraguan Ambassador to Kuwait, Mohamed Mohamed Farrara Lashtar, who read a poem he had written dedicated to Fidel Castro Ruz and presented a photograph of the statue unveiled on the main avenue of the sister Republic of Nicaragua—a gesture that was received with special appreciation by the participants. The event concluded by reaffirming the importance of preserving and passing on Fidel’s historical and humanistic legacy to future generations.
