Addis Ababa, June 12, 2025.- In a significant step toward strengthening the presence and cooperation of Latin America and the Caribbean in Africa, the ambassadors of several countries from the region, including Cuba, gathered for a working session convened by the Ambassador of Colombia to Ethiopia and the African Union, Yeison Arcadio Meneses.
The meeting was attended by diplomatic representatives from Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Mexico, Chile, and Brazil, who reaffirmed their commitment to a joint interregional agenda focused on key issues such as:
Strengthening relations between the GRULAC (Latin American and Caribbean Group) and the African Union;
The promotion of the CELAC-African Union Summit as a strategic platform for South-South cooperation;
Advancing historical justice for African and Afro-descendant peoples through concrete reparative initiatives;
Building stronger and more visible bilateral relations with Ethiopia, host country of the African Union.
Representing Cuba were Ambassador to Ethiopia, Meylin Suárez Álvarez, and Ambassador to the African Union, Lucas Domingo Hernández, who emphasized the importance of advancing common horizons for cooperation and development within an increasingly multipolar international context.
During the meeting, a roadmap was agreed upon with specific short and medium term actions that will allow for coordinated and effective follow-up on these objectives.
This initiative marks a significant advancement in the regional integration process and the positioning of Latin America and the Caribbean as an active and forward-looking bloc on the African stage, promoting fairer, more equitable, and sustainable ties.
